Sarah Palin is a conservative American politician. After growing up in Alaska, Palin entered into politics in 1992 joining the city council in a small Alaskan town called Wasilla. She then worked her way up from local to state politics. In 1996 she became the mayor of Wasilla, where she remained until making an unsuccessful bid for lieutenant governor. However, despite losing, she entered state politics by becoming the chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in 2003. Then in 2006 she was elected as the governor of Alaska. She then sprung upon the notional politcal stage in the 2008 presidential race as John McCain's vice-presidential running mate.
